Could I suggest the inclusion of a short introduction to the use of the singularity function (albeit a pathological function) for the study of beam and frame deflections? as it can greatly simplify the hand analysis of complex loaded beams to generate the equation of the elastic curve? Irving Shames has a good couple of chapters in his books Introduction to Solid Mechanics and the more advanced text Elastic and Inelastic Stress Analysis.
